What happens at your first visit
Nobody enjoys a first appointment with a new provider. Here is exactly how it goes, what to bring, and how long it takes, so there are no surprises.
Booking
Three ways, all of them fine:
- Zocdoc, which shows my live availability and is the fastest
- Curogram, if you would rather send a request and be called back
- Ring the clinic on (602) 635-6951 and ask for me by name
Ask for me by name. It matters, because it is how you end up with the same provider each visit rather than whoever is free.
What to bring
- Photo identification
- Your insurance card
- A list of every medication and supplement you take, including doses
- Any recent test results or records from a previous provider
- The questions you actually want answered, written down. People forget them, every time.
How the visit runs
History first, properly
Your history, your family’s, what you are taking and what has been tried before. This is the part most visits rush, and it is the part that usually contains the answer.
Examination
Focused on what brought you in, plus anything routine that is due.
Tests, if they will change something
Bloodwork or imaging if the result would change what we do next, not as a reflex.
A plan you can repeat back
If you cannot explain the plan to someone else when you leave, I have not done my job. Ask me to say it again, differently. I will not mind.
Follow up
When to come back, what to watch for, and what should make you call sooner.
How long it takes
Expect a first appointment to run longer than a routine one, because the history is the bulk of it. Come a few minutes early if you have paperwork to complete.

Which insurance plans are accepted at the Laveen clinic is being confirmed and will be listed here. In the meantime, ring the clinic on (602) 635-6951 and they will check your plan before you book.
A few honest answers
Are you a doctor?
No. I am a certified physician assistant, a PA-C. I hold a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah School of Medicine, I am certified by the NCCPA and licensed by the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants, and I practise as part of the medical team at Optima Medical. PAs diagnose, treat, order and interpret tests, perform procedures and prescribe.
Will I see you, or someone else?
Me, if you book with me and ask for me by name. That is the point.
What if English is not your first language?
Bring whoever helps you. I learned this healthcare system from the outside as an adult, so I have a reasonable idea of how confusing it is, and I would rather spend the extra minutes than have you leave unsure.
Can I bring my children to the same practice?
Yes. I trained in paediatrics and see well child checks and everyday childhood illness.
